Installation:
Insert the first Fedora Core 1 CD, turn on the computer, press the [F2] key to get the boot meny, and then press "C" to boot from CD-ROM.
I choose custom setup, because I never like the partition and package choises made by the other options.
Sadly they have have chosen to remove the good old "fdisk", so I use DiskDruid to set up my partitions. How to partition can be discussed, but I use 2xRAM for swap and the rest of the harddrive as I wish. For this test I set up a "/boot" at 128Mb and the rest on "/".
Usually I use the LILO boot loader, but this time i choose GRUB. Some because I want to take a closer look at it, and next because I have read some good stuff about it. One good thing is that it understands filesystems, and don't read dumb blocks like LILO. I don't like GRUB yet, but maybe one day... :)
Then choose the packages, and rock on! I guess you recognize most of it from the "RedHat world". One thing that is different, you're not asked to make a bootdiskette at the end now. CD1 can be used for rescue purposes, so why bother....
