Install video driver.
Windows® 98 is not shipped whith a supported driver for the SiS 6205 Video Card. To
install this, insert the floppy that was generated by running the previously downloaded (local copy) driver.
Go in 'Start' - 'Settings' - Control Panel'. Choose 'Screen', click on 'Settings' (Norwegian:
'Innstillinger') and choose 'Advanced' (Norwegian: 'Avansert'). Click on
'Card' and 'Change' (Norwegian: 'Endre'). Choose to search for new driver at a:\.
When you are asked if you want to keep the newer version of 'ddraw.dll' and 'ddraw16.dll',
choose 'Yes'.
Install updated driver for the IDE controller.
Because the driver that Windows® 98 installs for the IDE controller seems a bit buggy
we have to install an other driver, that actually is written for Windows® 95.(!)
After the installation are complete, boot the computer, still with the CD-ROM disconnected.
Insert the floppy where you have the files from unpacking the driver you have previously downloaded (local copy) for the PCI IDE controller with SiS 5513 chip.
Then go on 'Start' - 'Run' type "a:\win95\setup" (without quotation marks)
and click 'OK' to start the installation procedure. Follow the instructions on the screen.
When you reboot the computer it will update the database with the new drivers.
Connect the CD-ROM.
Shut down the computer and connect the power and data cable to the CD-ROM.
Put the cover back on and boot the computer. The CD-ROM should now work as normal.
Install CD-ROM driver for MS-DOS modus.
When the CD-ROM driver shall be install, do not run the
"cdsetup" from the files unpacking the driver you have previously downloaded. This loads a 16-bit driver for the CD-ROM so that
you can't access it from within Windows® 98.
Instead do the following:
- Copy the file hit-ide.sys from the unpacked driver you
have downloaded onto the hard drive. For instance into a directory (folder) called
"dev".
- Manually add this entry to config.sys by going on 'Start' - 'Run' type
"notepad c:\config.sys" (without quotation marks):
device=c:\dev\hit-ide.sys /d:mscd001 /n:1
- Manually add this entry to a file called "dosstart.bat" in the windows-folder
by going on 'Start' - 'Run' type "notepad c:\windows\dosstart.bat" (without
quotation marks):
