Before you start the installation you might want to download some drivers first.
The first you have to take a look at is the BIOS:
- Restart the computer and press F1 to enter the "Configuration Tool" for the
BIOS.
- Choose "Model Information" and read out the BIOS-version. If it doesn't say
BFL??4L or BST??4G you should do an
upgrade (??=Country Code).
- Download
the new BIOS from IBM (local copy) and run this file to
make a bootable floppy. Boot from this and follow the instructions on the screen.
Support for SiS6205 Flex-Memory Videocard:
Then you should download the latest driver for the SiS6205 videocard, as for now seems
to be the driver originally made for Windows® 95. But if you want better resolution than
640x480 with 16 colors :) you download it from IBM (local copy) and
run this file to make a floppy to install from.
Updated driver for PCI IDE controller with SiS 5513 Chipset:
The driver shipped with Windows® 98 for the PCI IDE controller seems to be very buggy.
And this is the main reason the computer freezes during installation. So download the
driver from SiS' (local copy), run the file to unpack it
at copy the files to a floppy.
CD-ROM driver in MS-DOS prompt:
Here you can download driver for the Hitachi CD-ROM.
Run the file to unpack, and copy the files to a floppy.
